The smell of Fall is in the air and

we are here for it. With rain and mud all around, we want to talk about all the places dirt is hiding in your home and how to clean it.

Below are some of the big ones!

Dust, Grime, and Germs... oh my.

Carpets and Rugs

Are you aware that carpets can hold approximately four times their weight in dirt and maybe even more? Carpets hold up to 200,000 bacteria per square inch. That’s up to 4,000 times more than your toilet. This is because carpets are often made of natural materials, such as wool or cotton, which can absorb spills and trap dirt. This is why it is very important to get your carpets cleaned regularly. You may vacuum once or twice weekly using a store brand carpet cleaner, but this will not solve the problem. You need professional carpet cleaning to ensure that all the dirt and allergens have been removed from the fibers in the carpet. You should clean your carpet at least every 12 months to remove dirt, grime, and allergens. However, this schedule can vary depending on several factors in your household. If you have children or pets, you might shampoo your carpets more regularly.

Why you should hire a professional:

There are many carpet cleaner machines out there for rent or purchase but most just get the surface clean and actually push the real dirt further into the carpet while leaving the dirty water below. The problem with leaving water in the carpet after cleaning is that it creates a perfect breeding ground for bacteria…Gross! Other reviews for these machines have stated that some of them rust quickly and stop working after only a few uses. The biggest headache that comes along with renting a carpet cleaning machine is that you never know exactly what you are going to get out of it. Is it going to work well, or not? Is it going to leave water behind and ruin my carpets? Will it leave a sticky residue behind in my carpets that will attract even more dirt over time? Save yourself the stress and hire a professional carpet cleaner that will give you a clean that will last longer, get more out of your carpet, and leave you satisfied!

When You Should Clean and How Often

Home Maintenance List

Makeup brushes: Dirty makeup brushes can cause an infection, such as a fungal infection, E. coli, or a staph infection, which can be very serious. To protect your skin and kill any harmful bacteria that lingers in your makeup brushes, it's a good idea to wash your brushes every 7 to 10 days.

Toothbrushes: Sanitize in a cup of white vinegar and hot water every two weeks.

Throw rugs & Bath mats: Throw into washer once a month.

Washing machine: We recommend cleaning your

washing machine about once a month or about every 30 cycles to prevent buildup and soils

Mattress: Vacuum your mattress once a month to remove dust and other allergens.

Vacuum: Clean vacuum filters at least once a month.

Range hood filters: Clean with oven cleaner every 3-4 months.

Dishwasher: Clean your dishwasher monthly to prevent a buildup of germs and maintain the efficiency of the machine.

Coffee maker: Descale coffee maker or clean your Keurig once a month for daily coffee drinkers.

Garbage disposal: Regular cleaning can prevent gunk buildup, clogging, and odors. Clean the splash guard. We recommend doing this weekly.

Jetted tubs: We recommend running a bleach cycle through your system once a month (depending on usage).

Sponges: Get them wet and throw them in the microwave weekly for one minute to kill bacteria.

Kitchen sink: To keep microorganisms from populating your sink, you should wash and disinfect the sides and bottom at least one a week.

-EXTERIOR

Gutters: Speaking in general terms, you should make a point of cleaning your gutters at least twice a year. Depending on what sort of foliage you have near your home (such as pine trees), you may want to clean once every three months.

Roof: We recommend getting your roof cleaned professionally

once a year.

Pressure washing: Decks, patios, driveways, exterior of home, etc. Should be pressure washed once a year.

Exterior windows: For residential homes, you should schedule window cleaning at least twice a year.

Chimney: It's really important to clean your chimney once a year to prevent build up and possible chimney fires.

Car: Most manufacturers recommend washing your car every two weeks.
